Jane Hall and Kate “Beauties.” Cosmopolitan Magazine October 1939 (Copr. Hearst)

Cover artist Bradshaw Crandell called this image “Beauties.” He and his wife became good friends of Jane when she was in Hollywood. She was inseparable from her dog Kate (real name Katherine Scarlett O’Hara) whom she rescued in the March 1938 floods that devastated Los Angeles. Crandell used the device of the dog tag to put “Jane Hall MGM” on the cover as most of his iconic cover girls were anonymous. We own the original pastel. Cover design Copr. Hearst Publications.
